Tips And Tricks to get the most out of your digital downloads from Digital Scrapbook Creations.

(Please note: These tips and tricks are meant only as a guide and help for those who may be new to digital scrapbooking)

Installing the Kit

  • Once you have downloaded the kit, locate it on your computer and double click it to open the zip file
  • All my kits are set up in a specific directory using the name of the collection/product. When you click "Extract" make sure you check the "Use Folder Names" before unzipping. The files will then automatically go into a folder of the kit (or embellishment etc..) name such as "Fairy Tale Castle".
  • Although it is just a personal preference, it's also "good housekeeping" for your files on your computer. It will aslo help you to locate your bought kits easily and then organise them as you like
  • If you prefer to set up your own folders, just make sure you uncheck the "Use Folder Names" before unzipping

Creating a Back Up of your Kit

It's always a good idea to keep a back up copy of any kits you buy online in their original zipped up format. That way you've always got an original copy should you lose or change any of the original files. By lose, I mean, through a computer crash or something similar. Although I suppose it is possible to lose files on your computer!! As soon as it is possible, I recommend that you create a back up disc with a folder on it for all your digital scrapbooking layouts, kits and elements. This is also true for all your computer files such as photos, documents etc.. This should be done as often as possible. You won't regret it!! But you will regret it if you lose all your precious work and kits without having done a back-up disc!

Printing

All my image files are created at 300 ppi. This is more than adequate for excellent quality printing. When creating your scrapbook layouts be sure to print on the very best quality paper you can afford. It really is worth it when you see your designs printed out! Do a couple of test prints on normal paper in draft quality so you don't waste ink and expensive paper. A test print will show if all is where it should be and prints out straight etc.

Alternatively, there are some really good printing services available which are very good value and it means you get excellent quality scrapbook pages without all the hassle of trying to get it right on your printer.

Try these:

Snapfish (USA) | Snapfish (UK) | Pixum | Photobox
